Really enjoyed the section through the forest, between the Pororari River car park and the Waikori Road car park (by the Punakaiki River). On 2 stretches of this part there was an alternative track signposted as Historic Inland Pack Track. This is the way the GPS track goes and we found it was nicer than the main track.

The section between the Pororari River car park and the Pancake Rocks is on a pavement and passes the Punakaiki Cavern so bring a head torch if you fancy exploring that.

Between Pancake Rocks and the car park on Waikori Road you're by the side of the main road and then up a gravel road - not really so nice, but unavoidable.
