The Glacier Trail is the most beautiful connection between Saas-Fee and the Mattmark region. The Glacier Trail is also the only alpine hiking route to span two glaciers in the Saas Valley.
Chessjen glacier and the Egginer-Joch to reach the “Britanniahütte”. From here, the new trail leads down the slope behind the hut (in a southerly direction) to the “Hohlaub” and “Allalin” glaciers. The markings are clearly visible and lead the hiker safely across the two glaciers and the scree field situated behind them. The crevasses are clearly visible on both glaciers and can be crossed with ease.
At the end of the Allalin glacier, you make your way over snow and scree on the side of the “Schwarzberg” and up to the “Schwarzbergchopf”. The “Schwarzbergchopf” is a great place for a rest with an exceptional view of the Mattmark reservoir. From here, the path is marked in white-red-white and is clearly visible. However, some sections are exposed and steep. From the “Schwarzbergalp”, a mountain road leads down to the Mattmark reservoir.
