Itinerary description
This trail follows the route taken by the Norwegian resistance when they attacked the heavy water factory in Vermork in 1943. Along the route of the walk are about 5 boards with information about the operation.
The route itself is well marked and easy to follow. In general it is fairly easy but the long descent at the end can be a bit tough. I recommend you spray a lot of insect repellent before you start. In June there were a lot of wild flowers in bloom.
To start the walk, park at the car park at Vermork (where this route ends), then walk back up to the main road and get the bus to Rjukan Fjellstue. When we went in June 2017 there were 2 buses per day at 10:25 and 12:35. Where the bus stops at Rjukan Fjellstue is where this track starts.
After we finished this walk we crossed the bridge and visited the Vermork industrial museum, which contained more information about heavy water and the resistance operation and the hydroelectric power plant. The old turbines are still in place in the museum.
