Itinerary description
The starting point is close to DeSpar supermarket in Sagres. There is parking space in this area.
The track goes over the beaches, cliffs and shepherds grounds north east of Sagres.
Outside of Sagres we mostly walk on narrow stony roads that are not really difficult but do require sturdy shoes.
Just outside Sagres we go inland and walk along a river bed. We cross the river (dry in May) and walk back towards the sea where we reach the beach at Lagoa de Martinhal. Once back at the sea, we more or less follow the route indicated blue and green for about 4 km (I have tried to stay as close as possible to the ocean). We pass the Playa do Rebolinhos and have very scenic views over the cliffs and the small islands close by the coast (Ilhotes do Martinhal). We turn around at Laje de Fora. The way back passes over shepherds grounds and through areas with the typical wind-beaten vegetation we find close to sea.
We return over the Praia do Martinhal.
The most difficult part of the track is when we cross the playa do Rebolinhos. Here we have to get down from the cliffs to sea-level and back up again. The descent is rather steep.
There are no places where we can find drinking water along the way once we have passed the Praia do Martinhal.
