Itinerary description
This cave is the oldest known Neolithic dwelling of humans on Rhodes island. The archeological findings from the cave are exhibited in the Archeological Museum in Rhodes Town (Medieval Town) at the prehistoric section.
You can access the cave from the little taverna just before the mountain. Not an easy one and not a marked clear path, you have to figure out your own how to get up there. I would suggest not to do this path alone. We were two persons and we had to physically support each other while climbing up. Wear proper hiking shoes, be prepared for a bit of a rock climbing on steep rocks. If someone has a fear of hight I wouldn’t recommend it. Avoid doing this path when the rocks are slippery during or after rain.
The path has a lot of Greek sage (Salvia fruticosa), wild oregano and nettle (in December) all around it.
The cave is an otherwordly experience. Being up there and understanding the cultural relevance of the place is unbeliveable. I loved it!
Be super careful if you are doing this one!
