Itinerary description
Leave Salamanca through campus of its two universities, following roads as close to the river as possible to the west. Will give you a view of some residential areas, some dry open ground and past the water supplier for the city.
There is a trail along the river and instead of following this all the way, I crossed over a bridge to the south side and followed the roads close to the south side as it wound west and north through farm land and then beautiful olive and sunflower fields. There are a few very small charming villages along the way and more agricultural land before getting to Almenara de Tormes.
Rested and had lunch on a shaded bench in the square in front of the village church and then took the faster but less scenic way directly back to Salamanca, a few kilometers shorter than the route there.
