Itinerary description
Interesting route through a part of Collserola we hadn't been to before. It's a well-known area, which can get crowded at weekends but this route takes you off some of the main tracks and mid-week we saw hardly any other people.
Lots of parking once you follow the windy road up to Santa Maria d'Olorda. You can either come up behind Sarria or through Molins de Rei.
It was a cloudy day in April following a couple of days of rain, with lots of spring flowers. It's worth checking out the Pedrera dels Ocells as a slight detour at the beginning of the trail. It's an old quarry which has been converted into a natural bird-watching spot. You can't go into the area but there's an observation point.
We then followed the main road back in the direction of Masia Can Portell and continued along the wide track. Just after the Montessori Forest school we turned left, following the signs for Can Farres and Pedreres de Can Farres. The wider track turned into a narrower path and it's worth taking a slight detour to go towards the Pedrera de Can Farres, which is a great place for a picnic spot, facing the rock surrounded by flowers and birdsong.
From here, we went towards the old, abandoned cement works, you can take another short detour to get closer to it, which has a spooky feel to it.
We then headed up to Puig d'Olorda, with the cross on the top fire tower K "kilo" before taking a small, narrow, windy path back down to Santa Creu d'Olorda.
