Itinerary description
Route which starts in the village of Oleta, a couple of kilometres from Otxandio. After leaving the car next to the Herriko Taberna (where we later enjoyed a couple of well deserved beers!), walk along the road for about 500m before turning to the right, following a path which says "no private vehicles". After another kilometre and a half, turn right next to a pile of stones (cairn). Now the route starts to get quite tough, but the peace and tranquility of the forest which we walk through more than makes up for it. Near to the top there is a path to the right which leads to the chapel of Santikurutz - it can be avoided just by keeping on the original route, but the extra few minutes are more than worth it as the views are spectacular. Then go back to the principal path and continue along until you reach Orisol, the highest point on this walk. The descent from the peak is stunning until you reach the Collado de Lezaega, where you turn left, but afterwards there is a section which is a bit monotonous for about 3km. After about 40 minutes, we pass the cairn where we originally took a right and just follow the path back to the car. Great excursion!
