Itinerary description
Day two of the 47km Scenic Rim Trail takes you from the Mt Mistake ranges to the camp grounds overlooking Mt Castle. This section of the trail feels so much easier than the previous day one despite being 5km longer. Between the camp grounds there is only an elevation increase of 180m over 15km. The entire trail is along a forestry track with only small undulations and the majority of the time you are deep with the a rainforest canopy. 10km into the trek you come across an old winch, previously used to snig timber up the steeper slopes. It was mothballed in the 1930's. If you are desperate for water, there is a creek about 600m below this spot where you could find water but its a faint trail so be careful. Most of the time you are hiking within 20m- 200m of the escarpment but unfortunately no track or viewing platforms have been made to enable you to see the views. Even when you finally reach the Mt Castle camp there is only limited views, through the tree line, of the beautiful valley and ridges below. The camp has a toilet and a drinking water.
