Itinerary description
Semyonovka - Gosh trail is of the long and worth-hiking segments of Transcaucasian Trail in Armenia.
Semyonovka ( Սեմյոնովկա ) is a village in Gegharkunik province where you start the hike heading to Gosh lake through the woods. After the lake you head to Gosh village (2-4 more km).
▲What you should know about this trail ?▲
--- This trail starts from Semyonovka village located in Gegharkunik region and leads to Tavush region. The first part of the trail ( about 3 -4 km) is typical flora of the Gegharkunik area: no trees, just bare hills.
---- Most of the hike you go through lush forest following jeep treks. Those treks can be extremely muddy after the rain.
The only part you follow a tiny path is the last km till Gosh lake. Be careful not to miss the signs there, as this is a bit of a confusing area.
--- This trail is blazed by TCT and you will see marks on the way. Anyway, having GPS is a must as we haven't seen a lot of signs there at the crucial junctions.
--- A part of this trail matches with Khachardzan - Gosh lake trail.
--- This trail doesn’t have a lot of scenery as most of the time it’s a hike in the woods. But it passes through abandoned village Chermakavan ( Ճերմակավան ) where you may see all that ruins of old houses which gives kind of quint atmosphere to the hike. (I always walked past only one person living in that village).
--- After passing the village we turned off the trail to Chermakavan 10th century church’ s ruins ( Ճերմակավան եկեղեցի ) for the view from the heights (this spot is mentioned in the waypoints). Only western wall of the church has survived. (the old name of the church is " Ak kilise").
--- This trail leads to Gosh lake, so you need some more km to complete it in the village.
I haven't recorded that part as here we have 2 options.
First: Heading to Gosh village by Transcaucasian trail ( 4.5 km )
Second: Choosing the steeper and shorter way to the village (2km).
These both trails you may find in my trails' section by searching "Gosh lake - Gosh village".
SEASON
▶Recommended:
This trail is better during greenery and fall colors.
So the green season starts from May and lasts till late September. The colorful autumn has a short life here: October.
Best of the best: mid October
▶Not Recommended:
From November till May there are only naked trees here.
Sometimes greenery may come earlier - from mid April and sometimes we have a longer autumn - till mid November, but generally the area is dry in those periods of time.
▶ Snowy winter
Gosh lake has an amazing view during a snowy winter.
But I'd not recommend hiking this long way in a snowy winter, as a lot of parts of the trail will be blocked with snow and the hike will turn into a tough challenge.
It's better to choose shorter hikes to Gosh lake for this period (4 km or 8 km by TCT)․
Snowy period starts normally from late December till March (depends on season).

Left for TCT trail but you can go straigh as well
The left trail we have chosen is a trail through the forest, but in some season it might be confusing and difficult to find the trail and blazed marks. So the jeep trek that goes straight leads right to the lake, a short but very steep option.
