El Burgo – La Añoreta
This linear walk officially starts from the outskirts of El Burgo on the A366 road to Ronda.
There is a path about ½ Km from El Burgo on your right.
This path used to be the old roman road of El Burgo to Ronda.
There is a gradual steady climb of about 480m.
The Cortijo Venta de la Añoreta used to be a watering hole for travellers including the Bandoleros (highway thieves). Now it is in ruins. Close by is also the Añoreta well.
Just before arriving to la Añoreta about 200m on your left there is a rectangular threshing field where you can see the rocks jutting out of the ground.
From here I took a detour to the fire lookout post (well worth the extra detour) which has spectacular views of El Burgo, Sierra de Ronda, the lakes, Monte Hacho, Alcarapain, Sierra Prieta, Sierra Cabrilla and Sierra de las Nieves.
Getting back to the intersection, carry on right until you get to a chain blocking the track. From here go right making your way down into the forest. This is the trickiest part of the route. If there was a path, it has disappeared. There are cairns in some places. Eventually you do get back onto a path after about 800m approximately. There is one section which has a steep descent.
Eventually you come to a firebreak. Follow this and then take a path on your right, which goes all the way down to the stream (dry), and then a gentle climb back to your initial track.
I wouldn’t recommend doing this walk on your own, especially going through the woods, and the possibility of no phone signal in the area.
Trekking poles are highly recommended.
Doing this walk linear to the fire lookout is the better option.
It is a great walk with lots of peace and tranquillity, and amazing views.
