Sendero Los Llanos del Rabel, Grazalema
Sendero Llanos del Rabel (formerly known as Llano del Ravel) is an easy linear walk in a protected area. The gate you pass at the start please keep it closed.
The route is gently downhill all the way, and the surrounding area is very picturesque with Pinsapos and oak trees and beautiful mountains.
As you pass the gate to your right you can see the Garganta Verde gorge.
The trail ends at a flatland – Llanos del Rabel. There are some benches here and a watering hole/trough in front of you; you will be able to see El Torreón, the highest peak in Cádiz.
Carry on down a bit more to pick up the start of Camino de los Pinsapos. This circular route will take about 40 minutes and is a medium hike. The first part to the summit is uphill all the way. It is really worth doing this extra route. The information board says it’s a magical forest. They aren’t far wrong. I really enjoyed doing this circuit. You can’t get lost and there are many wooden and stone steps along the way. There is 100% shade from the Pinsapos and oak trees.
It is a well planned route.
Most people get to los Llanos, have a picnic, then head back. It is such a shame to miss this hidden little gem.
All in all it was two great walks in the Parque Natural Sierra de Grazalema. Well worth the drive and effort if you are in the area. But don’t forget to get a permit first.
There are several walks in Grazalema that need a park permit, and this is one of them. You can either get it from the El Bosque tourist information centre

Note all trails that require a permit are closed between June and October due to the risk of fire. Pets are not allowed on this trail.
Better still you can download the permit by using the online site Ventana del Visitante. Type in the route you want to do, the municipality, in this case Cádiz. Next add your ID details and your email address. Next it will show you a calendar with availability, and how many people you will be walking with, (which will come under your permit).
I believe there is a limit of about 30 persons per day. Once you confirm all your details a Pdf permit will be emailed to you. Either print it or have it on your phone.
Just to let you know the forest ranger was driving past and asked to see my permission. The routes are monitored.
Directions to the start: Driving through Grazalema for 1.5km on the A372 heading towards El Bosque, at the first bend stay right onto the CA-9104. This mountain road twists and turns, and also goes downhill. As soon as you pass Km9 take the offroad parking on your right. The Sendero is opposite the car park, crossing the road on your left.
