Sendero Vela Blanca SL-A 105
This Sendero starts from the car park adjacent to Casa de Mónsul. Entrance to the national park is 6 euros. To get to the car park which is on the ALP 901 dirt track road, which is a bit bumpy and the speed limit is 20-30 km per hour, and takes about 20 minutes to do the 4.5km to arrive at the car park which is on your right.
Starting the Sendero, the route is uphill most of the way, to finally reaching the Mirador de las Sirenas, where there are great coastal views all the way back to San José, and to the right you can see the Cabo de Gata lighthouse.
You pass three lovely beaches on your left with paths to get there if you wish to explore these hidden coves.
1. Playa de Mónsul
2. Cala de la media Luna
3. Cala Carbón
From the Mirador you can go up to the summit to view the watchtower Torreón de Vela Blanca.
This Sendero is named after a white triangular volcanic rock formation that unfortunately can only be viewed properly from the sea. So the Sendero which is lovely is a little misleading.
The rugged and unspoilt coast was a pleasure to walk along. I will definitely come to this area again.
