Sendero Yunquera – Río Grande PR-A 246
I started this route on the Camino de los Arbolitos, adjacent Camping Sierra de las Nieves. Taking several roads on the Westside of Yunquera (which was surprisingly quiet and very clean).
Getting onto Calle Agua and heading down to the old mill – Molino de los Patos, and going under the arches where the official route of the walk starts.
There was a slight glitch at the first intersection. The GR markings through me off (I didn’t see the PR markings, white and green underneath). So at this intersection stay right.
The route goes through the valley de la Umbria. In places there is nice shade from eucalyptus trees. The route is mainly downhill to the Nacimiento – the start of the Rio Grande by the Zaralones cave, which has been gated off, (End of Sendero).
From here we went down to the weir / small dam, going down a lot of steps, where it is a really good spot for a picnic.
The official route is about 6.4km return trip with a climb of 144m and a descent of 277m. Duration of the walk is about 3-4 hours.
It’s a good hike with great views.
