Itinerary description
Serralunga d'Alba - Barolo.
An absolutely gorgeous path along vineyards from Serralunga to Castiglione Falletto and onwards to Barolo. We left early, ate like kings in Castiglione and had some of the best Barolo on the trip in the village with the same name. Doing the hike off-season in February was excellent, not too hot, no other tourists, but getting a cab back to our AirBnB from Barolo was a bit of a hit and miss, until the town baker helped us out and took us back.
We did the route in running shoes. A few places were a little muddy, but easily avoidable. Had there been more rain before the hike, it would have been a muddy walk along some of the fields. Some parts of the hike go close to houses with dogs in leach / on a fenced yard. There are some shady parts, but if it's very hot, the trail is bound to be very hot as well.
Doing the route, I'd perhaps study the local buses that seem to run along this route, albeit very, very infrequently or arrange the taxi in advance or just do the hike and be prepared to wait (possibly with a glass of Barolo) at Barolo.
