Itinerary description
Serrania de Ronda route of the Pueblos Blancos - White Villages. This trek from Benarrabá - Benalauría is a very diverse and scenic route that takes you down from the entrance to Benarraba village down a steep and little visible path (this first phase is known as Camino ornitologico) down the birdwatchers path - the path is barely visible but persevere and it gets better and wide as you venture down into the valley with its deciduous forest of cork oaks. you will cross a couple of streams without getting wet and at around 4,5km you will see the rio Genal, the magnificent river that feeds the stunning Genal Valley. The trek down is slippery when wet so be wary and careful. this walk will then run parallel to the Genal river for 5-6 km which gives a welcome respite to the steep grounds you left behind. This walk will take you along many varieties of woodlands and there is good opportunity to see wild and domestic pigs roaming, deer and an array of song and river birds and bird of prey. Before the 6km ascent to Benalauria you come to Venta San Juan and a tarmacked road. There are a couple of camp sites here too which can be accessed by campervans via road to Estepona. You start climbing to Benalauria along a stretch of tarmac but soo cut across and re-join the GR141 path all the way to town. The uphill stretch can be hard in the summer months, a time of the year when this route is not advisable
