Sierra de Gibralmora Extended Circuit, Pizarra
This is an extended version of the walk I did in February 2022.
It uses part of the old PR-A 118 that has been discontinued.
One section of the walk uses a very quiet tarmac road (4.5km)
This circular walk starts on the outskirts of Pizarra. Go through some gardens, and turning right with a shortcut through some campo which joins up with the El Santo Sendero.
Note at the entrance to the pillars that say Cortijo Gibralmora, I took an old steepish path on the left, but the path in front is easier and they do marry up eventually.
You also have an option to go to the statute of El Santo, which I didn’t do this time as I have done it on many occasions before, but it’s well worth the effort, just follow the signs.
This walk is abundant with wild asparagus, which some locals were picking. It is a very scenic route and there was an abundance of Bermuda Buttercups adding a lovely yellow to the different shades of green. I also came across a couple of Grape Hyacinth which were stunning.
The last leg of the route – the descent is a bit stony and the path isn’t that good.
Eventually carry on through some quaint back streets of Pizarra back to the parking area, passing some very popular restaurants and bars if one needs refreshments.
