Itinerary description
This a circular walk with a pan handle. Beautiful views and hopefully wild peonies.
The walk starts from the camping ground in the Sierra del las Nieves National Park. It is mainly on good tracks and there are many contrasting views throughout and hopefully we will be able to see the Peonies near the end of the walk.
We start on the tarmac road and then onto hard track, this follows flat beside a dry stream bed. The track then ascends gently to a large ruin by a flowing stream. We cross this stream via a bridge and ascend more steeply to the point where we follow a path (with a drop to the left) to our lunch stop with wonderful views towards Marbella and the coast.
We retrace our route to the ruin with lovely views across the mountains towards Ronda. At the ruin we take a track which goes through a pine wooded area and then down passing old mine workings crossing over the stream again into an open plato area. After crossing the stream again we return on the flat track before turning up into a wooded area where, hopefully we will see many wild flowers including the Peonies.
There is a short descent on a stony path before passing a water reservoir and returning to the road and then back to the camping ground entrance.
