Este sendero circular empieza en Mecina. Tendremos vistas preciosas al valle del río Trevélez y sus pueblos.
Bajamos hasta el río Trevélez, pasando por los pueblos Mecinilla y Fondales, huertas y almendrales. Cruzamos el puente 'romano' y subimos en la Sierra de Mecina por un camino hasta llegar a un carril. Giramos a la izquierda y seguimos hasta llegar a unos cortijos. Bajamos a la izquierda hasta llegar al río otra vez. Cruzamos y seguimos el camino hasta Ferreirola. Allí seguimos por la carretera hasta llegar al inicio del sendero en Mecina.
Como siempre: cuidado haciendo senderismo en la sierra: alguna vez hay un acantilado al lado del sendero y con el suelo desnivelado y con rocas hay que tener cuidado con los tobillos.
Si nos fijamos, vemos algún cable al lado del camino y algún torre robusto o plataforma de hormigón por la sierra. Hasta 1970 había una mina de hierro, cobre y pirita en frente de Trevélez y desde allí iban las rocas con minerales por vagoneta por el aire, con cables hasta la ruína cerca del embalse, para después transportarlas por camiones al puerto de Motril!
This circular hike starts in Mecina. We will have beautiful views of the valley of the Trevelez river and its villages. We walk down to the Trevélez river, passing through the villages Mecinilla and Fondales, vegetable gardens and almond orchards. We cross the 'roman' bridge and follow the footpath going up the Sierra de Mecina until reaching a track. Here we go left and follow the track until some cottages. Here we go down to the left and follow this footpath down to cross the river again. We follow the path to Ferreirola, cross the village and follow the main road back to Mecina, the start of the hike.
As always: be careful, next to the footpath the hill can go down steeply and be careful for the ankles: the paths are always uneven and rocky.
In the mountains we can see parts of metal cables, concrete platforms and robust towers... Until 1970 an iron, pirite and cupper mine was used in front of Trevélez: from there wagons with rocks with minerals went by air, by cables down to the ruin near the water reservoir where it was transported to the Motril port by trucks!
