Esta ruta forma parte de un recorrido circular de tres días que transcurre entre Trevélez y Bérchules.

El tercer y último día de este periplo por Sierra Nevada, fuimos desde Bérchules a Trevélez, pasando por Alcútar y Juviles, recorriendo un tramo del sendero “Del mar al cielo”. “Del mar al cielo: crónica de un viaje a Sierra Nevada” es un libro escrito por António Rubio en 1881 que cuenta la expedición realizada por el autor y dos amigos desde Berja (Almería) hasta el Mulhacén. Partimos de Bérchules por la carretera, en dirección a la población de Alcútar, que se halla a poca distancia. Alcútar pertenece al término municipal de Bérchules y destaca por la iglesia de Santa María “La Mayor”, del s. XVII. A su salida, tomamos un camino hasta las inmediaciones de una cantera. Ahí, lo dejamos, para enfilar en subida una senda que nos llevará hasta Juviles. Poco antes de llegar a esta población, conectamos con el GR-7, que en este tramo viene desde Cádiar y que ya no dejaremos hasta Trevélez.
Juviles es famoso por sus jamones, esto es, porque, al igual que Trevélez, se utiliza por su altitud como secadero de jamones. La población está repleta de establecimientos para su venta. Se da la casualidad de que, con 134 habitantes censados, es, además, el pueblo de menor población de toda la provincia de Granada. Desde las eras de la Cruz, puede obtenerse una bonita panorámica del pueblo, a un lado, y, al otro, del Fuerte, promontorio rocoso sobre el que se asentaba un castillo árabe del que aún se conservan restos.
A partir de Juviles, siguiendo, como hemos comentado, el GR-7, iniciamos una prominente subida por senderos que nos llevarán hasta la cota 1759, allí donde la zona de matorral da paso al pinar y entramos en el Parque Nacional de Sierra Nevada. Un poco más adelante, se nos une el GR-240 (Sulayr). A partir de este punto, vamos descendiendo hasta Trevélez con la mirada puesta en la esplendorosa panorámica que conforma la cabecera de su río homónimo.

This route is part of a three-day circular route that runs between Trevélez and Bérchules.

On the third and last day of this journey through Sierra Nevada, we went from Bérchules to Trevélez, passing through Alcútar and Juviles, along a section of the "From the sea to the sky" trail. "From the sea to the sky: chronicle of a trip to the Sierra Nevada" is a book written by António Rubio in 1881 that tells the expedition made by the author and two friends from Berja (Almería) to Mulhacén. We leave from Bérchules by road, in the direction of the town of Alcútar, which is a short distance away. Alcútar belongs to the municipality of Bérchules and stands out for the church of Santa María "La Mayor", from the s. XVII. Upon leaving, we take a road to the vicinity of a quarry. There, we leave it, to go up a path that will take us to Juviles. Shortly before reaching this town, we connect with the GR-7, which in this section comes from Cádiar and which we will no longer leave until Trevélez.

Juviles is famous for its hams, that is, because, like Trevélez, it is used for its altitude as a ham dryer. The town is full of establishments for sale. It so happens that, with 134 registered inhabitants, it is also the town with the lowest population in the entire province of Granada. From the eras of the Cross, you can get a beautiful panoramic view of the town, on one side, and, on the other, of the Fort, a rocky promontory on which an Arab castle was settled, of which remains are still preserved.

From Juviles, following, as we have mentioned, the GR-7, we start a prominent climb along paths that will take us to level 1759, where the scrub area gives way to the pine forest and we enter the Sierra Nevada National Park. A little further on, we are joined by the GR-240 (Sulayr). From this point, we go down to Trevélez with our eyes on the splendid panoramic that makes up the head of its homonymous river.
