Itinerary description
Relatively easy walk to the highest 'peak' of de Monts du Cézallier. The Signal du Luguet at 1551 meters has a flattened top covered with forest and does not have much of a view. However, most of the walk offers great views of the Cézallier area, including the Monts Dore and the Monts du Cantal. This sparsely populated region is composed of high plains and pasture with some lakes, forests and little villages in between. Start of the walk at the end of the asphalt road. Most of the walk is on a broad dirt road, but to reach the peaks of Signal du Luguet and the Bois du Cézallier you have to cross pasture (do not disturb the livestock). The Signal du Luguet is accessible via a track, but for the Bois du Cézallier you have to cross pasture without a clear track.
A slightly different version of this walk is described in the german book "Auvergne mit Massif Central und Vallée du Lot. Die schönsten Tal- und Höherwanderungen" by Bettina Forst (walk 19).
