Itinerary description

*IMPORTANT: THE SECTION AROUND HEGGMOVATNET INVOLVES DANGEROUS WATER CROSSING. ATTEMPT AT YOUR OWN RISK*

4-5 day moderate trekking in Sjunkhatten national park, done in early June. Was done as the first part of Lofoten (Moskenesøya) trekking (on wikiloc separately).

Weather: chilly to freezing cold (2-6 C), quite windy with a reasonable chance of rain. Lot's of damp areas on the trek (some are legit swamps), so wet boots it is. There are snowy trek sections, but there was no snow falling. Beware of walking on snow - it may have deep empty crevasses with a rocky bottom.

Track: mostly unmarked, but not overly challenging, except for the section around Heggmovatnet. This section requires 50-meter up-to-chest water crossing with an extremely high risk of falling into the water entirely, so waterproof bags for clothing and gear are essential. A boat would not hurt :) Consider the southern shore as an alternative (not tested, but seemed way easier). Water is abundant and clean, no treatment required. Cell reception and 4G almost everywhere.

Scenery: beautiful dynamic landscapes

Transport/facilities: get a taxi to Hola (start of the trek) and there are buses/taxis to get back to Bodo. There is a sports store in Bodo, with a selection of gas canisters and gear/clothing.
