Itinerary description
-----
Trail starts from the small train station in Skrad. There's a rather large parking lot here to leave your car. Since this is a circular trail you can follow it in either direction. The way we went is the reverse of the official designation.
You start along the railway, and when you cross it you begin the descent through the forest, first on the wide gravel path and then on the dirt trail which goes through the woods proper. At a certain point, the decline gets a bit steeper, but there's always some roots or trees to grab on, or even steel cables and wooden fences.
Note: as you descend into the woods and the basin, you will loose ALL internet access and mobile signal.
After a few kilometres you'll arrive at the cave "Muževa hižica" (eng. the Husband's House). If you're lucky, the spring Jasle will also be murmuring alongside it, and you can follow it through the Vražji prolaz canyon (eng. Devil's Pass canyon). However, in the summer months this spring can dry out, and unfortunately the trail is not as impressive without it.
When you get out of the canyon, you arrive at the "Zeleni vir" (eng. Green Spring) picnic area. there are bathrooms here, a restaurant, many benches, another parking lot. Leaving this general area will lead you to the actual waterfall and creek of "Zeleni vir", whose water is used by the small hydro power plant (the first in Gorski Kotar county, built in the 1920s).
From the waterfall, you begin the ascent back towards the town of Skrad, where you should arrive at your starting point.
Waypoints
Skrad train station
The small train station in Skrad, also a parking lot, and the starting point of the trail.
Intersection #4
Bird-watching station
A small bird-watching station, which can also serve as short-term shelter, or simply a place to rest.
Intersection #5
In this intersection, if you go left you can go all the way to the source of river Kupica; if you continue right you will continue on the Vražji prolaz-Zeleni vir trail.
Cave 'Muževa hiža'
Cave with a lake at the end of it, which sometimes goes dry. Supposedly, 2 boats were found in the lake there in the 19th century. To this day they haven't figured out what the boats were used for, or how they got there. You'll need to have very good lighting equipment to get to the end of the cave; also beware of slippery floor!
Vražji prolaz canyon (eng. Devil's Pass Canyon)
The focal point of the canyon, with the statue of St. Bernard the patron saint of hikers and mountaineers. The spring Jasle should be flowing below, but if you're here in the summer it could be dried out.
Picnic area 'Zeleni vir'
Picnic area and park, official entrance to the "Zeleni vir" (eng. Green Spring) nature reserve. You can rest, eat and go to the bathroom here.
Intersection #6
Go right to the Zeleni vir waterfall and small cave lake, and left to begin the ascent towards the town of Skrad.
Zeleni vir (eng. Green Spring)
The waterfall and small cave lake. Depending on the season, the amount of water will vary.

Be sure to bring a flashlight to go into the cave.
We did the trail in July 6, 2022 and there was no water in the canyon. Completely dry. The restaurant and toilets at Zeleni Vir were closed.
