SL-A 223 Sendero Presidiarios
This is a linear walk which starts at the parking area just past the giant ‘H’ arch (entrance to the shooting range – Club de Tiro Jarapalo).
The start of the parking entrance is on your right on the A404 just past Km16 (coming from Alhaurin el Grande). Parking near the start of the walk is not allowed anymore, you will be towed away).
As the route progresses it will get a bit harder to navigate due to last years fire, and the lack of markings and posts, and also due to a lot of pine needles on the ground in places.
Even though there is fire damage, it is a nice walk with some really good views.
You will come to a fountain on your right – Fuente de las Piedras (which was dry). The path meanders along the Arroyo de Fuente de Piedra until you arrive at the first pass – Puerto Arenal (locally known as Las Playas). From here you go around the side of the valley parallel with Arroyo Hondo before making the final ascent to the Pass – Puerto de Las Tres Caleras, at the intersection with the GR 249.
I added the Mirador Hoya de Málaga/Valle de Guadalhorce as it was not far, but you have to scale up the rock face to get to the top, but the views are worth it.
What was nice to see was new growth at the roots of many trees and shrubs that were starting to come back to life.
