Itinerary description
We parked the car just before the village on the side of the road and walked to the famous espigueiros in impressive formation. Within 50m, just South of the espigueiros, there is a square that allows easy parking if you want to park in the village. On Saturday morning 9am we were the first to arrive and with a little fog lingering in the surroundings, the place had a mystical atmosphere. From there, through the beautiful picturesque village and along a combination of walled roads and granite plates up to the summer village of Murça, with stunning views on the village behind and the environment - a combination of wild and cultivated land. The way back, downwards, (counterclockwise) was actually a lot more difficult as the climb, across a bumpy/rocky trail and through thick undergrowth. The highlights here was to see how the slopes recovered after a forest fire, now many years ago, and the crossing of a stream in an idyllic corner of the slope. The last kilometers, the trail loosly follows a levada and crosses it several times.
