Itinerary description
Starting in Soria proceed along the GC-505 for 1.5 km to the Cascada Bonita where the GC-505 continues as a dirt road. If you have two cars you could shorten this route by 1.6 km, the distance on the road from Soria to Cascada Bonita by doing a car shuttle.
Continue on the dirt road (GC-505) for a further 2.5 km where there is a right turn on to a camino proceeding into Barranco de Soria. At the point where the camino reaches the Barranco there is a rock house where a German gentleman has been living for many years. If he is home when walkers pass by he is happy to engage them in conversation in several languages.
Continuing from this Rock House the route goes on through the barronco and after a short while leaves the barranco up to a level area where there are some "hippy" residentcies. Next there is a steep climb up towards a 770 m peak known as Puntón de los Portugueses where there is a Y-junction, with the left fork going up to Los Cercados and a right fork proceeding towards Lomo la Palma. Follow the Lomo la Palma fork, which is the most obvious of the two possibilities.
Lomo la Palma is an isolated pueblo and well worth a stopover for exploration. Shortly after leaving Lomo la Palma the route begins a fairly long descent to Presa de Soria where it crosses the dam wall before ending back in Soria. The walker may then enjoy refreshments at the bar/restaurant Casa Fernando.
