Spain, Pyrenees: Aigüestortes NP - Carros de Foc 6 day version

This route is the classic counter-clockwise Carros de Foc circuit, done in 6 beautiful days and bypassing 3 of the 9 huts (as optional detours). Each day is between 3 to 6 hours long - some are easy and some are more strenuous. 6-12 km days with 300-800 meters of ascent and descent daily.

Typical access point is the town of Espot, reachable by bus from Barcelona. See the notes for each hut in the waypoints - they all have alternative access points in case of variations, shorter versions, bad weather or fatigue/injuries. If you're short on time then a "shortcut" allows to break the route into two halves (like an 8 shape) by an easy crossing from Estany Llong to d'Amitges / Ernest Mallafre, or vice versa. Aigüestortes national park ("winding waters"): GR11 and Carros de Foc (chariots of fire) - arguably the best multi-day hut-to-hut trek in the Spanish Pyrenees. Officially linking 9 huts, 6 of which are in use here, and very popular in summer. In winter the huts open only unmanned and unserviced emergency rooms (October to May). Expect to pay the huts about €60-65 for half-board per night per person, and 12-15 more for a picnic lunch. *A liner is a must for all huts*, and rain gear is also a good idea.
