Itinerary description
The old path of the milkmaids (Sendero de las Lecheras) was used till the 1960s to get from La Laguna to Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Famous and easy trail, but less scenic than one would expect and entirely in the sun - so be prepared and bring sunscreen. The way ends at the Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de la Concepcion, which is just 50 m from the tram station that brings you back zu La Laguna (direction: La Trinidad, also the final stop in La Laguna).

Started from Santa Cruz. The climb up through the hilltop village to the start of the trail is amazing with some great views. Unfortunately we had to stop about 2k into the Camino de las lecheras as there was a large pack of dogs on the path ahead. I’ve since read on other sites that these are likely to be hunting dogs. They were huge dogs and were acting aggressively and barking a lot. I would have carried on had it been 1 or 2 dogs but there must have been 10 . The owner/trainer did absolutely nothing to reassure us it safe to approach or restrain the dogs so we had to abandon the walk. I’ve read on the web since then that hunting is with dogs is common in Tenerife and permitted on Thursdays and Sundays (we did the walk on a Sunday). I also read that the government sanctioned hunting season is between August and December. We did the walk in June so maybe it was illegal hunting.
