Itinerary description

I wanted to explore the trails north of the campus. I haven't been to the area so this includes quite a few interesting path choices as I just wanted to explore. More info on the waypoints. Overall, that was a difficult but highly enjoyable hike. If you are new to the area, you may have hesitations upon seeing the Mountain Lion sign. However, a local walking nearby mentioned that she has hiked those path even in the evenings and have not encountered anything.

On the map it seems like there is no trail going down to the pond but there is.

I followed left here towards Rincon trail.

Rincon connector Trail

The path on the left is for mountain bikers. I took the connector trail back towards the left. The narrow path. The above sentence was my take, by looking at the path. As the sign mentioned the Rincon connector trail towards the back and left, I decided to go that way. Another hiker took that trail right before me. So that also gave me the impression that it was a good idea to go from there. I also wanted to get away from the main road to be away from the car sounds. That was not the best idea since that path was also used by mountain bikers and there were really steep climbs. So if you are picking that way, be cautious and prepare for a challenge.

Path

Up until here, it was OK but it was clearly used by cyclists.

The track got worse and worse with steep climbs. I wanted to stay off the trail in case any cyclist would come down, if they did they would be pretty fast. When I climbed up, the path was returning back to where I came, from another path. So upon seeing the trail on the west close to me on the map, I decided to go off trail and reach the path. Following those orange signs helped a little but I am pretty sure those were not waypoints.

I was a bit impatient to find the turn and thought that there was no trail where the map showed there was. So I took the woods again However, if you walk a little further you will reach the path that goes left.

Eventually, I was connected to the trail.

S Fuel Break Road

Seeing that S Fuel Break Road was close to me, I took a shortcut by leaving the trail that was heading to Buddha Shrine. I reach the S fuel Break Road. Just on the left, I noticed the fire hydrant. It seemed like there was a trail that is not on the map. I was pretty sure it would lead me to Tree 9. By the time I reached the fire hydrant, I saw the Tree 9.

Construction

As I was walking, I have seen a road construction site and it seemed like there was no passage. However, you can pass through the site reaching a trail that is not shown on the map. I took the photo after I past the construction site just to give info.

Most of those trails are used for mountain bikers. So be on alert and watch for them. He just happened to pass by as I was taking the photo.

Bridge

That's the bridge I took to reach Porter College. After passing the bridge, the map shows there is a trail heading up to the bridge a little further. But there is no trail. So heading up to the bridge right away where the bridge is a good idea.

That is the trail that is shown on the map. It seems like there is a trail but it leads nowhere.

The stairs on the left take you to Porter College. I walked a bt further down but from here onwards, you are in civilization.
