Itinerary description
We finally completed the infamous stairway hike (easy version) that's still not a beginner hike. From Ghalila damn you can expect almost 2000 meters elevation that's up, up and up.
We got treated to lots of rain, which became more rain, and very cold around 6 degree, we were freezing and cold, and wet and decided to take a cab back to the car.
We intended to hike down wadi ghalila for a big loop, but the cold weather was too much! A friendly local even gave us a lift down the road to the Highest Restaurant where we waited in the freezing lobby for our cab!
Thank you @Patrick De Silva as always for sharing great routes
despite the cold, our little group enjoyed the adventure!

Looks cool.
That's the fabled stairway to heaven?
Hello Dave C yeah man, we finally nailed it. It's a nice route I recommend it, but not in the rain as we did, but defo not in the summer either!
Hey Andy,
I'm glad that you did this hike, its one of my favourites.
There are few exit points which are helpful in the event you need assistance, such as today.
Hiking at heights in the clouds has its in fun too.
But being wet at 6 degrees would be too unbearable.
That's cool. I'll hopefully have a crack at it next season. Was it as dangerous as it's reputation suggests? Or is that a different route that's dangerous?
Just read the detailed description. Cool. Will crack this one soon. The full loop would have been huge.
Hi Dave,
STH has 2 routes.
1. Technical with hands on scrambling and exposed ledges and its known as STH Left Bank which leads you directly into Omani territory at the top plateau after the stairs.
2. Easy version as this one named as STH Right Bank.
Nice one Dave and thank you Patrick for excellent descriptions and reliable information ℹ️👌
