Itinerary description
This pleasant hike includes second growth forest and understory plantings, a hemlock grove and a splendid view of the river valley from Stoltz Knoll.
The trail follows a logging road in the valley beneath Stoltz Bluff eventually arriving at the Stoltz Knoll viewpoint. There are a couple of short diversions into the forest along the way. The first is down Hemlock Trail where at the end is a bear-rub tree. The second is along Triceratops Trail where locals have established an impromptu art installation.
There are good views from Stoltz Knoll to Mt. Prevost, Mt. Maxwell (Saltspring Isld.) & the hills above Lake cowichan.
Parking at the trailhead is extremely limited. For this reason, it is better to park at the entrance to Stoltz Pool Park and walk to the trailhead (approx. 1 KM).
This is a mixed use trail shared with horseback riders, ATVers.
The Retreads Hiking Club gives this hike an AVA rating of 2 B
