Itinerary description
Sanctuary of Light
The patron saint of Tarifa, Nuestra Señora de la Luz, has her sanctuary about 8 km NW. from the city, near the place where the Battle of the Salado took place, in which according to legend she would have intervened by prolonging the day so that the Christian hosts could culminate their victory.
Its construction dates from at least the 16th century, but it was razed by Napoleonic troops and rebuilt in the same 19th century. San Hiscio, bishop of Carteia, a city that was mistakenly located here, and San Mateo, whose festival coincides with the day of the Castilian conquest, on September 21, have also been patrons of Tarifa.
Garganta del Río Molinos, a deep gorge and in some sections almost inexpunable, but if we pay the toll of the odd spider with brambles, as it will allow us to enjoy one of the wildest landscapes in the park, to get to it we have designed a route that will allow us to know the whole area in depth, a route where nothing is missing , water, waterfalls (if it rains enough, of course), cork oaks, olive groves, herriza areas, strawberry trees and the typical fauna of the park.
