Itinerary description
Montejaque was the start of this beautiful hike a white village in the Serranía de Ronda mountains. The towns name comes from Monte Sacrum (Sacred Mountain).
We stayed at the Palacete de Marara a 3 star hotel located in the Plaza which was a Noble Mansion House in the 17th Century and the first half of the last century a sausage factory until 1995 when it was converted into a hotel.
Our hike started at 7:45am with a gentle climb picking up and following the GR7 in the fertile plains at 1000 metres between the mountain ranges of Móntale, Juan Diego, Libar and Mojon Alto.
A frosty carpet covered the Valley floor with ice sheets formed over the cattle troughs and perfect hiking conditions.
When the GR7 changes direction through the mountain range of Libar we continue flanked by Sierra de Libar on our right following the plains of Libar towards the mountain of Los Pinos.
The trail ascends out of the beautiful valley before descending down towards the mountain range of Ubrique and from there onto Ubrique for a well earned rest.
Stunning views were to be had throughout this hike and thoroughly worth the effort.
