Itinerary description
Another adventure in the Los Alcornocales Natural Park.
The route takes us past the Algeciras prison ascending the Pico de la Palma (551 m.) through the Hoyo de Don Pedro.
Ascending through the forest we pick up the Arroyo del Prior with its magical water falls sounding like music on the ears coupled with the aroma from the forest make this a very pleasurable experience.
Leaving the river we ascend up through the woodland area and the Sierra de la Palma until we reach the top which opens out to release an amazing panoramic view across the Valley where we observe Griffon Vultures in flight picking up the thermals in the Valley.
From here we make our way along the ridge towards the Pico la Palma easily recognised by a cross erected at its peak.
From here we have amazing views of the bay of Algeciras towards Gibraltar and beyond.
From here we descend until we come to the stone platform where the Hoyo de Don Pedro Viewpoint also looking back up the mountain we can clearly see the cross mounted on the top of Pico de la Palma.
The route from here is relatively straight forward back to our starting point.
All in all a very enjoyable hike and the smell through the woodland section brought joy to the senses.

I think due to the slowness of the terrains a warning for extra water and long trousers would be very advisable. Hard hike
