Itinerary description
The Ruta del Buddha is a popular route in the area of Valdevaqueros, Tarifa.
The start of the trail coincides with the official path of La Peña.
The name of the route is derived from someone taking advantage of a hole in a rock and filling it with fabrics and oriental elements, creating a small altar to Buddha.
The trail runs through the Sierra de Enmedio with stunningly views of of the North African Coast and the Straits of Gibraltar that runs between Punta Paloma and Tarifa.
Part of the trail extends and goes up to the geodesic vertex of La Peña, the name by which the hill where it is located is known, passing through the wind farm, going down through a beautiful pine forest from which there are magnificent views of the Ojén Valley and the mountain range of the same name. and returning to the starting point through the Mirador de La Torre de la Peña.
We end up on the official path of Mirador de la Peña from which we can see the Torre de la Peña, also called the Torre de la Roca del Ciervo.
This isn’t a particularly long hike but the views are stunning and we’ll worth the effort.
We finished off with a cold beer on the garden terrace of Chiringuito Arte Vida about 1 kilometre from the start point towards Tarifa on the right.
