Itinerary description
A great hike with beautiful scenery and an alternative option of the same hike we did in Nov 19 and Jan 22
A word of advice if your coming from Algeciras, exit 54 of the highway has been closed so use exit 66.
Although the Murta Estate is public, it is advisable to go during the week or out of hunting season otherwise it will impede your passage.
The ultimate goal is to reach the so-called Piedra Orá, a curious sandstone arch nestled among the cork oaks the formation of which is very similar to the nearby Arco del Niño.
This trail runs through the Sierra de Murta (municipal district of Los Barrios). It is a mixed path where we will alternate forest trails and rather unmarked or non-existent paths winding between pines, cork oaks, gall oaks and riverside vegetation. We leave the first section of the track to progress through the Garganta del Agua, one of the most beautiful places in the entire natural park, with considerable slopes, to join the track again that will take us to the "Piedra Orá", a sandstone arch whim of nature.
Retracing our steps along this track we will go in search of the Parroso Gorge, whose distance, lack of visible paths and dense vegetation turn the route into a jungle adventure. It is essential to use GPS with a suitable track, unless we expose ourselves to going around in useless circles looking for the best path and lengthening it unnecessarily.
The difficulty level is medium-high, being a demanding route and not suitable for the "uninitiated."
All the same a beautiful hike.
