Itinerary description
We started our circular hike in the small town of Igualeja having decided to follow the relatively quite road and trail into the town of Pujerra at the beginning of the hike rather than the end which was I think the correct choice. As we entered Pujerra we admired the Beautiful views from the Mirador De la Cruz.
We continue through the town passing through the Plaza De la Iglesia and admiring the beautiful Church of the Holy Spirit which dates back to the 16th Century.
From here take the forest path between Pujerra and Igualeja, a route through dreamlike places.
Autumn takes the Genal Valley and recreates a copper forest on this path of around 11 kilometers in length.
The Centennial chestnut is 400 meters from the start of the route standing proud amongst the other trees in the forest.
Then, after the port of Juan Agustín, the route converges near the ruins of Venta Guaitará , the name by which this section of large chestnut trees is also designated near the municipality of Igualeja. Thus, the Pujerreño City Council encourages hiking enthusiasts to enjoy its natural landscapes as well as the rich gastronomy that the town presents at this time of year.
In the direction of Puerto del Madroño, tourists and visitors can enjoy wide views towards the Costa del Sol along with coniferous forests at the head of the Padilla stream, which contributes its flow to the Guadalmina River, as well as the ravines that give rise to the Guadalmansa .
Thus, the fall of the chestnut leaves during these autumnal days receives the visit of numerous tourists attracted by this dreamlike place that many describe as "the most beautiful route in Andalusia" . This itinerary begins with the steep slopes of the old road between Pujerra and Estepona , a journey that ends at the one known as Castaño Abuelo to merge into two secondary roads in 500 meters.
Between the municipalities of Pujerra and Igualeja there is a hiking route of just over 11 kilometers in length. This path, nestled in the Serranía de Ronda, these days turns to the coppery colors of autumn creating a visual appeal for nature lovers in the Genal Valley.
Our journey finishes where we started in
Igualeja the birthplace of the Genal river valley that forms in one of the most special districts of the province. This town is. Rivers in Igualeja.
I’d recommend you do this trail early November taking in the chestnut festival sampling the various culinary delights of the chestnut variety.
