Itinerary description
Update: these trail after hurricane maria is almost destroyed (forcing me to change it from difficult to experts only. You have to be really careful.
see the campamento susua trail (its a redo of these trail, we tried to make it as one trail uniting susua/yauco with these one but could not record the entire duration cause we ran out of battery "will try it again later")
These is an old abandoned susua forest service road that never got finished. I advise that only people who are experienced hikers do these trail. You will pass over the rio loco around 4 times so be prepared to get your shoes and socks wet. There is a river pass of around 2-3 minutes that has to be done completely by the river since the road was never finished nor connected, but you won't have to jump into the river just follow it downstream. The connection is a bit hidden so be very attentive to your right side while crossing.
To do these trail i recommend to carry around 7-8 water bottles by person and plenty of snacks plus a good meal, like an MRE or Mountain house meal bag. We stop a couple of times for breaks for a total of 2hr ands 30 minutes including meal break. The compleat trip took around 8hr but it can be done in 5 to 6hr with less breaks. We do enjoy trail hiking so unless there is bad weather or something similar we take our time to hike and enjoy mother nature.
Almost half of the trail is in good walking condition with no shrubs or cutting grass but after a while long sleeves and a good hiking pant is needed, also a pair of gloves and a machete are a most. Take with you a map, a compass and a cellphone.
Always take necessary precautions when hiking unused forest trails, they are not maintained.
Enjoy!!!!
