Itinerary description
Svartifoss waterfall is yet again one of the more impressive waterfalls in Iceland, but this time it's not the size that impresses the spectator but rather the sight of the basalt rock formations. Visiting this waterfall requires a climb which is manageable as the path is well-maintained. Nonetheless the altitude gain of 175 meters shouldn't be underestimated. As a reward you get a really beautiful waterfall. You see the basalt rock formations in other places in the vicinity such as the black beach of Stokknes, but this time accompanied by a waterfall. This is one of my favourite places in Iceland and that's saying a lot. I'd rather visit this waterfall, than the other, so-called famous waterfalls such as Gulfoss or Skogafoss. I can imagine this is also a great place to hike, but unfortunately I didn't have the time to hike here.
