Itinerary description
Easy and beautiful track to visit the Tama Lakes (upper and lower lake) in Tongariro National Park. It is a good alternative if you don't want to do the harder and famous Alpine Crossing track or the weather in the highest part doesn't allow you to do it.
It is a 21 Km track, but easy to walk, the path is always indicated and in good conditions. Once in the upper lake, you can choose if you continue walking to see the upper lake closer or not, the path here is more steep.
Return is on the same way, except when you arrive to a junction where you can come back for the same way or follow the Taranaki falls track. In this track we decided to continue by the Taranaki falls track and have a look of that beautiful waterfall.

Fácil y bonito hike para visitar los lagos Tama (bajo y alto) en el Tongariro National Park. Es una buena alternativa si, por diferentes circunstancias, no puedes hacer el famoso Tongariro Alpine Crossing (clima, sin tiempo suficiente, etc).
Es una ruta de 21km ida y vuelta, pero fáciles de recorrer, el sendero está muy bien acondicionado con tablones de madera o arenilla.
Una vez en el lago de arriba (upper Tama lake), podemos seguir avanzando para verlo un poco más de cerca, pero en esta parte el sendero es algo más abrupto y estrecho.
La vuelta se hace por el mismo camino, pero cuando lleguemos a la bifurcación, podemos escoger el camino de las cascadas Taranaki y, de esta manera, las visitamos y volvemos por ese camino que llega al mismo lugar.
