Itinerary description
Starting near an old quarry (the only "ugly" waypoint on the trail), we directly climbed north off-trail to reach Dahr el Mtein. This "plateau" overlooks Sannine, Zaarour and Kneisseh. We followed the contour of trenches from world war 2. You can visit the deepest hole in the middle east (Houwwet fouwwar dara). This was not done during this hike but you can search my other trails to reach this waypoint. At the end of the trenches line, we went down to cross a bridge over Beirut river. From here starts another beautiful part of the hike where we reached some beautiful spring waterfalls in wadi el Manzoul. We went through a green area covered by Rhododendron plants before reaching the highest point of the hike close to Sannine-Tarchich road. The descent from there is pleasant with magnificent views of Mount Kneisseh. The mix of rocks and trees makes this part of trail really stunning. Take your time to enjoy this area. I climbed to a high point here to visit a beautiful tree surrounded by rocks (check waypoint). The loop was closed after descending to wadi el Mkaymel to reach the ugly old quarry. It is sad how Humans destroyed the beauty of this part of Lebanon. This hike is highly recommended in spring season. Enjoy!
