Itinerary description
3-day trip starting with Nikkaluokta–Tarfalastugan. We took the boat over Laddjujávri so we could reach Tarfala before nightfall on a Friday afternoon late August, but if you depart in the morning you can walk all 25 km to go there. The next part, via Guobirvággi to Kaskaskavagge via two 1480-meter high passes, has many (almost exclusively) stones and boulders and is slow to walk, there is almost no vegetation, just stones, snow and ice. In Kaskaskavagge it gets a bit easier towards the wind-shelter Kaskavagge (it is possible to sleep here). Here cross the river (on the bridge), then up and over the plateau Cievrraláhku; still many stones but also considerable vegetation. Via a renvaktarstuga one can walk to a comfortable ridge on the south-west side of the Cievvrajohka-canyon until one reaches a trail that leads down to Laddjuvaggi through the birch-forest.
We did this as a three-day tour, the first night camping near Tarfalastugan (prepared but rocky camp-sites) and the second night at the Kaskavagge shelter. Moderate because of the many stones; slow-going, but no big difficulties.
