It's a nice hike you can do near Cusco (by yourself).
During the hike you can find several lakes, to see a Sahuasiray glacier and the Huchuy Qosco Inca ruins (just from the trailhead and bypass them).
We did it in 7,5 hours
We did this trek in January 2024 and we can confirm that it is easy to find the trail. The ascent is never really steep.
We took a taxi to the trailhead in Tauca with Taxi Cusco Tours A1, Edwin, 100 Soles for two people, who was extremely reliable and explained us a lot about the surroundings. On the other side in Lamay, there is a bus stop right after the bridge and the little forest. From there, we took a collectivo for 6-7 soles per person to Cusco. It stops about 15 min walk from the main square of Cusco, but there are plenty of taxis around if you want to continue by taxi.
On the mountain ridge, there is even a bench with a little straw roof where we made a break. At Huchuy Qosco, it seems that there is even a bathroom.
The descent from Huchuy Qosco to Lamay is really steep, even though there is a well-maintained trail. We were happy that we brought poles. I'm not so sure if I would appreciate the descent while it rains, especially not without poles.
