Itinerary description

This part of the coast is called 'Alcantilados del Infierno' (cliffs from hell). At first I found that a strange name, because the area is stunningly beautiful. But today the ocean was really rough and I got a better idea of what the name probably came from.

This little walk will take you as well to the Camino de Santiago as to the coastal paths near the cliffs.

I parked at the area recreativa de Guadamía and started to walk in the direction of Cuerres, to save the best part for last. Other options would be to park in Cuerres (there is even a little trainstation close by) or at the area recreativa del Infierno.

You'll start walking to Cuerres on the meandering little asphalt road on which you arrived by car. In Cuerres continue straight ahead, until you'll see the first signs of the Camino del Norte (yellow arrows and yellow shells). From Cuerres the trail follows the Camino de Santiago for a while. You will pass the village of Toriello and after that continue on a gravel / dirt road, passing meadows and grazing cows and sheep.

At the point where the gravel changes into a asphalt again, you'll leave the Camino and take a road to the right. That road will end up at the area recreativa del Infierno. At the other side of the area recreativa you will see a small path taking you to the cliffs.

From here on there are several tracks and a wider path to choose from. It doesn't really matter, as long as you keep the ocean to your left you can't get lost. It depends also on how adventurous you are and how much vertigo you have ;-) And how high the gorse is and whether you wear long pants or shorts (like I did...).

It was a beautiful route, with beautiful views over the coast. The inland paths are easy to walk and quiet. It' s a really enjoyable walk.
