Itinerary description
Loop to the Indian Nose from San Juan.
Entering the park costs 30 quetzals, the actual trail starts close to the Mirador Kaqasiiwaan, which I visited some days before so I didn’t stop there.
The trail is very clear but there are basically no indications except for a big white arrow at some point.
The way up is quite hard and if you do it alone be sure to have a gps or a map because there are some deviations and you can miss the right way.
I was suggested (by guides or tours agencies) not to do it without a guide because they say it can be dangerous, they mentioned some assault risks or getting lost chance, but after talking with some locals I decided to trust them and myself and do it by myself.
I did met several people, old campesinos, women and even children, all very nice to me. They go up to pick up coffee or wood or just to pray.
Regarding getting lost if you do it in the morning it’s ok. If you go at night in order to get to the top for the sunrise then yes I suggest maybe it’s better go with a guide.
Once at the top you are in the Santa Clara territory, so they ask you to pay again. You can go back to your steps or make this loop which made the way down a bit more panoramic and easier.
At the Arrow waypoint I went right for a bit which was an extra to the original planned path, but it was nice and I found another mirador, I thought I could reach the top from there too but one man told me I couldn’t sonI went back.
You can avoid that part and go directly to the top going left.
Before reaching the top you can see the Pico the loro stone, and another couple of great viewpoints, but the view from the upper mirador is just amazing, if you’re lucky and the day is clear you can even see far away Volcanoes Fuego and Acatenango.
Bring with you enough water and a snack.

Amazing trail, thanks! The wooden steps require attention as already noted! The views of the volcanoes are extraordinary and the way back through the jungle gorgeous, thanks!
