The Waterfall Walk, Tolox
SL-A 239 Charco de la Virgen.
All the walks in Tolox are lovely, but this one is one of my favourites.
This is a short out and back walk of about 2 hours.
It starts at the Balneario Fuente Armargosa health Resort.
Start by going down the side of the Balneario, where you crossover two new wooden bridges. Then climb up the path on your right. This will take you into the valley. There are some allotments and meadows watered by Nazari canals. The area has vigorous pine forests and the mountains are composed of peridotite. You will also come across dwarf fan palms, juniper bushes, mastic trees and gorses.
There are five river crossings (streams) over the Rio Caballos and one of its affluent, the Palmarejo stream. You will find stepping stones, but after heavy rains you may get your feet wet.
It takes about an hour of gentle uphill climbs to get to the Virgin pond (Charco de la Virgen) and the waterfall.
It’s a great quiet and peaceful picnic spot (busy in the summer months and weekends).
