Itinerary description
A beautiful walk in the protected area of Ifonche to three impressive barrancos. The initial part of the walk is quite poorly defined and care needs to be taken to stay on route. Rock cairns are the key to staying on the path here. As you approach the first barranco, Barranco de Las Goteras, the GR 131 long distance path is joined and followed until you cross the Barranco del Rey, the second barranco on the walk. The Barranco de Las Goteras is unusual in that it is crossed via a stone bridge. After crossing the Barranco del Rey, as you begin to descend, the GR131 is left for an altogether more sketchy path into the Barranco del Agua. As you descend into this Barranco, you reach a fork in the path but stay on the descending path to the stream-bed. I investigated the upper path but this soon peters out and is not recommended. The ascent path out of the Barranco del Agua is very steep and the path is littered with pine cones and loose rocks. Pay attention to the onward route once out of the barranco as I initially started following the wrong path but quickly realised before locating the onward route. Once back in Ifonche, it is unfortunately necessary to follow the road back to the start point but this in my opinion does not detract from a beautiful walk.

Thank you for your comment, glad you liked the walk. 🙂
I did this walk today with 2 friends. We all loved it. The paths were all great paths to walk on. In places we had to work out where the path was but there were plenty of stone cairns to follow.
The views were fabulous. We will be doing this walk again.
Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed the walk, as you say, some paths are a little undefined but not too difficult to follow. Thanks for your comments.
