Cellar - Alta Alella

Alta Alella is a family cellar located in a nineteenth-century estate located 2 km from the Mediterranean Sea between the towns of Alella and Tiana. They produce both wines and cavas following organic agriculture and winemaking processes. It is the closest cellar to Barcelona and its organic wines are in the menus of some of the best restaurants of the world. Alta Alella is opened to the public. One of their vineyards (Vallcirera) has been recently awarded as one of the first Spanish “Paraje Calificado del Cava” (“grand cru” site), the highest category in the cava sector and a recognition of quality and singularity that only wineries having a vineyard with exceptional climate and geological conditions can access. Centre cultural Can Lleonart

Sant Feliu d'Alella Church

The first document speaking of the parish of San Felix dates from 993. The origins of this building were a Romanesque construction of which only the base of the bell tower remains. During the fourteenth century an extension that corresponds to the presbytery was built. In 1454, the community acquired surrounding houses and began the construction of a new Gothic temple. Between 1611 and 1613 the church was refurbished again, the nave was extended and the current Baroque façade was built. The sacristy and the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament were built in 1886. As an anecdote, Antonio Gaudí carried out a project for the chapel which was never developed despite having been approved by the Bishop of Barcelona (Gaudí spent some summers in Alella between 1880 and 1890). Mirador del Cim d'Alella

Ermita de l'Alegria

The Hermitage of the Virgen de la Alegria is documented since 1018. It seems that its construction was carried out on the remains of an ancient Roman villa. The original temple was built in Romanesque style and was consecrated in 1104. The building as we can see it today is the result of some works carried out in the sixteenth century, reformed and expanded during the eighteenth century -in the façade you can see an inscription with the date of 1729. The oldest documentation referring to the cult of the Virgin of Joy dates from the second half of the 17th century. The construction consists of a single rectangular nave finished off with a polygonal apse and a tower bell tower with pointed windows and a pyramid-shaped roof. The interior is decorated with mural paintings by Ignacio Sierra Goday (from 1970).

Antiga colònia Tizina

In the vicinity of the hermitage of La Alegria was settled the former colony Tizina, of Roman origin, which origined what now is the village of Tiana.

Coll de Vendrans

Vine cultivation was already known at the time of the Laietanos (iberos), but it was the Romans, from the 2nd century BC, who introduced it definitively as a vegetable crop. In Tiana, around the hermitage of La Alegría, there were a series of Roman villas, such as Can Fàbregas, El Rocar, Can Llinàs... The villas (villae), with an extension of about twenty-five hectares, were given to the veteran graduates of the Roman army and occupied flat and protected areas next to a torrent, facing south. The settlers practiced fallow land of vines and pine trees. Wood was used for construction and firewood for plasterers (brick kilns and lime kilns were made of ceramic and glass). The planting of pines caused the large extension of the current pine piñonero.
