TMR Day 3: Grächen - Europahütte (Europaweg)

The third day of the Monte Rosa Tour.
Start in Grächen and head south towards Gasenried. After this small hamlet, at the locality of Schalbettu, you’ll face a demanding but technically easy ascent until the Grafenhorn and the statue of Saint Bernard; both locations are well suited for admiring the pristine panorama all around you. Now the path is straight: there’s little risk of taking the wrong way. However, the whole route is along cliffs and subject to rockfalls, meaning that you should not tarry while on scree-covered areas and the path may change a lot from the previous years (imlying that singposts may not report the most up-to-date walking times). Expect some parts to be equipped with chains and/or ropes. Due to the irregular nature of the terrain and the vertical exposition, stamina and almost constant focus are required.
In addition, keep in mind that water is absent (apart from a couple of streams towards the end) and you are always subject to the elements, being them sunrays, wind or rain.

Il terzo giorno del Tour del Monte Rosa.
Da Grächen dirigetevi a sud fino a Gasenried, poco più innanzi, presso la località di Schalbettu, comincerà una salita piuttosto estenuante, ma tecnicamente facile fino al Grafenhorn e alla statua di San Bernardo, due punti da cui si può godere di un panorama eccezionale, superbo a dir poco.
Ora il percorso è dritto: il rischio di imboccare la strada sbagliata è pressoché nullo, ma l’intero sentiero si sviluppa lungo dei dirupi ed è soggetto a frane. Ciò impone necessariamente di non sostare su aree coperte da sfasciumi e può anche voler dire che il sentiero vari da anno in anno (e quindi i cartelli non mostrino tempi di percorrenza esatti). Aspettatevi dei tratti forniti di catene o funi. A causa della natura irregolare del terreno e la sua esposizione, si richiedono resistenza fisica e concentrazione quasi costante.
In aggiunta, tenete a mente che non ci sono punti di approvvigionamento per l’acqua (tranne un paio di ruscelli verso la fine) e che siete sempre soggetti agli elementi, siano essi raggi solari, vento o pioggia.
