Itinerary description
The Toolona creek circuit is probably the most iconic and best easier hikes that can be done within the Lamington National Park. The track starts from O'Reilly's Green Mountain resort. The area is notorious for very poor GPS signals but the track is very well marked.
In summary the track starts by descending to Toolona creek and then follows it's ascent up Mt Wanungara passing many waterfalls the most iconic is being Elabana Falls and Chalahn Falls. The track then follows the ridgeline across via Toolona lookout to Mt Bithongabel. At the right time you will see all the way to Mt Warning.
The track concludes following the border trail slowly down from the mountain back to O'Reilly's.
Please allow 5 to 6 hours to complete this route. The rocks across the creek can be slippery at certain times of the year and like many mountain areas in this area there are plenty of leeches. You can get very cold at the higher elevations especially around the mountains in the middle of this walk so definitely take a jacket at all times of the year.
There are many offshoot tracks around the section that follows to Toolona creek. Expect to see lots of blue freshwater crayfish in the various pools that form along the creek. In their higher mountain areas expect to see lots of aged Arctic beech trees.
Enjoy this wonderful track.
